01 — The case
The problem
Old assumptions held that friendly forces would hold numeric superiority, and tactics followed 2:1 force ratios. Current tactical problems face the opposite. Drones and cruise-missile threats present an incredible numeric inferiority.
The need
U.S. military equipment availability rates are falling to a dangerous level. Mission-capable rates are worse. A 2022 GAO report documented the condition. Using fighter aircraft as Red Air accelerates wear on an already aging fleet.
The solution
RedSpecter Defense addresses training to modern threats while decreasing cost by roughly two-thirds versus manned contracted Red Air. Through a National Strategic Integration (NSI) process—military-civilian fusion—we intend to use the U.S. domestic aerospace industrial base rather than stand up a new factory from scratch.
02 — Snapshot
High-speed, recoverable aerial targets for Department of Defense training and weapons test and evaluation. Not interceptors. Not a shooter. Not in service.
Cruise-missile and one-way attack UAS presentations for air-to-air, surface-to-air, and joint training. Swarming is an intended capability, not a fielded one.
Capability in full →Intended platform class is the Kratos MQM-178 Firejet class: jet-powered, high-subsonic, parachute-recoverable. RedSpecter Defense does not manufacture Firejet and has no signed Kratos production contract.
How we intend to build it →03 — Cost
Contracted adversary air from providers such as ATAC and Draken runs about $17,000–$25,000 per flight hour. Fighters used as Red Air cost still more and consume mission-capable inventory.

Ten drones. Pacific and sea-skimming profiles against Navy and joint ranges.

Ten drones. Atlantic test infrastructure and Navy / combined-force T&E.
Continental
Ten drones. Large-force exercise environment and Air Force training demand.
Status. Self-assessed TRL 4. RedSpecter Defense does not currently operate those squadrons and does not hold a Department of Defense production or services contract for this offering.
