01 — The case

Numeric inferiority is the training problem.

The problem

The ratio flipped

Old assumptions held that friendly forces would hold numeric superiority, and tactics followed 2:1 force ratios. Current tactical problems face the opposite. Drones and cruise-missile threats present an incredible numeric inferiority.

The need

Availability is falling

U.S. military equipment availability rates are falling to a dangerous level. Mission-capable rates are worse. A 2022 GAO report documented the condition. Using fighter aircraft as Red Air accelerates wear on an already aging fleet.

The solution

Recoverable threat reps

RedSpecter Defense addresses training to modern threats while decreasing cost by roughly two-thirds versus manned contracted Red Air. Through a National Strategic Integration (NSI) process—military-civilian fusion—we intend to use the U.S. domestic aerospace industrial base rather than stand up a new factory from scratch.

Firejet-class air vehicle

Intended platform class is the Kratos MQM-178 Firejet class: jet-powered, high-subsonic, parachute-recoverable. RedSpecter Defense does not manufacture Firejet and has no signed Kratos production contract.

03 — Cost

Manned Red Air is the expensive substitute.

Contracted adversary air from providers such as ATAC and Draken runs about $17,000–$25,000 per flight hour. Fighters used as Red Air cost still more and consume mission-capable inventory.

Figures below are planning numbers for an intended recoverable-drone service, not an awarded contract price.
